My mother was a significant part of my life as she utilized the resources available to her, such as reading stacks of ADHD books and talking to multiple ADHD experts. Mom says one of the most valuable things she acquired from these resources was realizing that she was not alone in the challenges that she and I faced. A whole ADHD community out there meets the same challenges, obstacles, and struggles.

We now live in a time where technology gives us easy access to a multitude of information on any subject that we desire to gain knowledge on. You can better understand how ADHD affects you or your children by educating yourself on ADHD with the abundance of resources available online. I would not be the person I am today without collecting the following of ADHD

A BETTER UNDERSTANDING : RESOURCES ON HOW ADHD AFFECTS YOU OR YOUR CHILDREN

CHADD

You can't have a list of ADHD resources without including CHADD, the largest national support organization for ADHD. CHADD's website (chadd.org) is full of support and education for adults and families living with ADHD. Their website provides excellent science-based information, including options for training and online events to ask experts any questions you have about ADHD. They have a tab where you can access a list of resources such as scholarships, research, toolkits, factsheets, and more.

As a college student, I love this resource because I can learn more about scholarships. A past research study of mine has also been featured on the website's research section. So, suppose anyone out there is conducting a study in the field of ADHD, CHADD provides a potential opportunity to support your research and help you benefit the community while learning more about ADHD. You can also volunteer by participating in a research study to benefit and develop both the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. CHADD also hosts an online conference where speakers talk about ADHD and their research findings. You can also access a resource directory to find ADHD professionals in your area on the CHADD website. I've joined CHADD's Adult ADHD Support online community through their website, with over 14,000 members and thousands of posts. You can also follow CHADD on multiple social media platforms, so make sure to check them out!

ADDITUDE MAGAZINE

ADDitude Magazine is another resource at the top of my list. ADDitude Magazine isn’t only a magazine but a website (http://additudemag.com) that provides articles, blogs, and podcasts. ADDitude works with medical experts to publish accurate, clear, and authoritative articles and content with periodical reviews and updates. Articles on the website titled; “10 ways to actually beat deadlines” and “40 ADHD friendly tips for getting things done” are excellent sources of tips and tools to improve your productivity. Their website also has a section for ADHD treatment where you can browse all sorts of articles and content covering medications, therapies, coaching, and natural remedies. Under the medications section, they provide other people’s reviews for a whole list of ADHD medications and natural treatments, which can be very helpful if you want to see what others have to say about a particular medication or treatment. A nifty feature of the website that I used over the holidays is their yearly gift guide, where you can check out a list of holiday gift ideas for both adults and children during the holidays. One of my favorite gifts from the list is the Magnetic Desk toys to satisfy those fidgeting urges at your desk. Make sure to utilize this resource and subscribe to ADDitude Magazine if you want to stay educated in the ADHD community

REDDIT

Reddit is a social media platform made up of communities called subreddits that cover all sorts of topics and interests. What caught my eye one day on Reddit are the ADHD subreddits. Their biggest one is r/ADHD, and it has a total of 1.3 million members. As written in the subreddit’s description, it is a place where people with ADHD and their loved ones can interact by exchanging stories, struggles, and nonmedication strategies. Whenever I need advice on a particular issue, I can either find a past post related to that issue, or post the question myself and get some answers. It’s a fantastic place to join discussions and create connections with other ADHDers. If you are looking for a good dose of positivity to get your day going, the subreddit has a “Did something nice happen?” thread where everyone shares their positive stories weekly. Members of the subreddit share their tips for time management, organization, and productivity to add to your ADHD toolbox too. Scrolling through social media constantly can be a bad habit for us with ADHD, so including content like this surrounds you with the tools you need and can sometimes give you that extra push to take on the day! The subreddit also has weekly threads titled “I’m new to meds” or “I just got diagnosed!” for those who want to educate themselves on ADHD and medications. Reddit also has more specific ADHD subreddits that you can join, such as r/adhd_anxiety, r/adhd_college, r/adhdmeme, and more
