The city has three (3) full time playground inspectors that inspect and maintain all of our playgrounds under the direction of the Manager of Parks Operations. The information collected through ongoing inspections and maintenance of each playground forms part of the playground condition and asset rating, coupled with age of the unit and availability of replacement parts that determine the useful life left on a playground. The city also relies heavily on a third party audit which is completed every 5 years for information regarding condition of the playgrounds and compliance with current standards. This information is used in conjunction with the cit y’s monitoring program and other factors as mentioned above to provide a list of playgrounds that should be monitored closely as they are nearing the end of their serviceable life. The latest third party audit was issued this year to Playchek Service Inc. who is currently contracted to perform a comprehensive audit on the entire system of 136 playgrounds. Audit results are not expected to be available until late spring of 2021.
Current inventory and information collected by the cit y’s three trained playground safety inspectors at the direction of Manager of Parks Operations have provided a list of recommended playgrounds for monitoring. When the audit results are available next year administration will have a more accurate picture of replacement schedule. The playgrounds ’ current condition rating based on staff records and the City’s Asset Management Plan identify the following 30 playgrounds which are currently still in service but are being monitored as they are expected to be next for replacement within the next 10 years.

It should be noted that the playgrounds listed below are not in order of replacement and are listed by Ward. When the audit results are complete in 2021 administration will be have more accurate information regarding a schedule for replacements.
