Discussion:
In 2018 the Ministry of Labour Ergonomists embarked on a two-part Ergonomics Intiative focusing on ergonomics and musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) prevention targeted to municipalities. The Intiative has two parts, a site visit that involves an administrative assessment that included a review of workplace procedures and accident incident reporting, and site visits designed to allow the MOL Ergonomist to view worksites and identify possible improvements with the goal of reducing MSD’s.
The administrative review site visit occurred June 18th 2019 and involved a number of workplace parties, including Human Resources Health and Safety staff and the Corporate Ergonomist and Wellness Specialist and the Health and Safety Coordinator for Local 82. On March 5th, 2020, the MOL Ergonomist conducted the second part of the Initiative, the site visits. The sites visits included stops at Public Works Operations sites at Crawford Yard, Traffic Engineering as well as a roadway worksite on Roxborough Boulevard where workers were performing pothole patching.
