RE: Community Services and Parks Standing Committee, December 4, 2019

Report S214/2019- Item 8.3 with regard to the Duff-Bâby Mansion at 221 Mill St.

Dear Chair of Community Services and Parks Standing Committee,

Port Windsor is pleased that the Committee is considering options that that would re-invigorate and open the Duff-Baby Mansion to the public. The Port Authority is committed to its home base in Sandwich, and encourages all initiatives that create a more vibrant and livable community.

As you know, we recently opened Prosperity Place, a community meeting site and outdoor marine museum next door to the Port Authority Office at Sandwich and Mill streets. We are justifiably proud of this accomplishment. We partnered with Les Amis Duff-Baby in developing some of the information panels for this outdoor museum, two of which are focused on the Duff-Baby Mansion. In fact, as you read those panels you will be able to look over them directly at the house, and the waterfront.

Opening the Mansion to the public will likely increase foot traffic in Sandwich and in Prosperity Place, informing a greater number of visitors about the history of the house, our community, and the economic origins of Windsor.

I wish your Committee well in its consideration and ongoing efforts to make Sandwich Town not only a destination, but a choice. The Duff-Baby Mansion has always been a key part of that strategy.

Sincerely,

Steve Salmons, President and C.E.O
