Des’ Dominance - 2018
Some of the worst weather conditions in history played out at the 122nd running, as driving rain, howling wind, and cold temperatures greeted participants all along the course. The conditions didn’t impact Des Linden, as she became the first American woman since 1985 to win the open division.
Team Hoyt - 2014
Team Hoyt took Boston by storm beginning in 1980 and soon captured the hearts of fans near and far. The father-son duo inspired thousands as they charged towards the finish year in and year out, completing 32 Boston Marathons together. Team Hoyt’s 1,000th race came at the 2009 Boston Marathon, and the pair’s final Boston was in 2014.
Bringing Boston to the World - 2020
A unique chapter in race history was made last year, when the race went virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic. In nearly 90 countries and all 50 states, 16,183 marathoners celebrated the spirit of Boston in their neighborhoods, uniting to cover 26.2 miles. This marked the first year the race was not held on Patriots’ Day weekend.
