Report Date: July 17, 2020
Clerk’s File #: SW2020
To : Mayor and Members of City Council
Recommendation:
THAT the report from the City Engineer, dated July 17 th , 2020, BE RECEIVED for information; and,
THAT City Council DIRECT Administration to undertake public and stakeholder consultation relative to the elimination of garbage collection from most alleys and that a report be brought back to Council with recommendations on a staged approach for Council’s consideration.
Background:
During the 2020 Budget Deliberations, Council approved the following motion:
Decision Number: B9/2020
That Administration BE DIRECTED to prepare a report for Council’s consideration related to options for curbside garbage collection instead of alley collection city wide wherever possible.
This report addresses that direction.
Discussion:
As Council is aware, there are three (3) waste streams collected in the City of Windsor: garbage, recycling and yard waste. Most residents receive this service curbside in front of their homes, however some residents receive either one or all 3 collections in the alley behind their home.
