Recommendation:
THAT the report from the Manager of Parks Development on the updated status of the playground audit report from 2015 and current playground inventory review BE RECEIVED .
Background:
At the meeting of Council on August 24th 2020, Councillor Morrison asked CQ 23-2020:
“That Administration prepare a report to update the 2015 Playground Audit Report. This should include but not be limited to, the current inventory of playgrounds in the city and their locations, a review of playgrounds that were removed for reconsideration and recommendations for future changes to the inventory or alternative amenities. Ask that Administration report back in a timely manner for future capital budget discussions.”
City Council approved an audit of existing playground equipment outlined in report #15932, Removal of Non-Compliant Playground Equipment on March 28, 2012 as per council resolution CR129/2012.
At its meeting of December 21, 2015, City Council report #18001 outlined the audit results and recommended two options for playground replacements, in addition to a proposed schedule for replacement and life cycle costing based on a 20-year life cycle asset management model. Option B was endorsed by council as per B40-2015, which recommended an overall reduction in the number of playgrounds as well as the elimination of play units that are in close proximity to another play unit which exceeded the requirements of the official plan creating a higher level of service in some areas of the City .
