PLEASE HAVE A COPY FORWARDED TO EACH COUNCILLOR. THANK YOU! Hello, Mr. Mayor and City Councillors:
My name is Idella Lazar. I am/was a member of Ford City Neighbourhood Renewal, Ford City Residents Association and Ford City Safety Committee and have lived on Hickory Road for almost 50 years.
I am writing in regard to the application for a site plan approval to permit a Transportation Terminal for 2650 Metcalfe, Ward 5. They wish to exempt the property from Intermin Control By-law 78-2019. I have no means for streaming, so am submitting a written objection.
This application for exemption must not be approved in my opinion from my Ford City involvement and my experience of living in Ford City.
The yard is in a residential area of Ford City; namely Albert Road, Hickory Road, and Metcalfe Road north and south with Drouillard Road and St. Luke Road on the east and west. This property has been a source of complaints for years with several owners. There has been fires, noise all hours of the night, no lighting, dust and the beeping from backing up. I have walked Drouillard Road when a transport truck was driving up the street from the yard and had to literally wait until the dust died down. It was terrible! This only adds to the dust and dirt that we get from the scrap yard but at least they wash down the vehicles and try to control it.
Our Garry Dugal Park is right beside this site and has recently been upgraded for safer use. How does a transportation terminal fit in with a park next door that has playground equipment and a splash pad?
A site plan control has been suggested of which I have little confidence in. I have been involved in these previously for this site and I found that only some of the recommendations were ever carried out. They look good on paper. Also, I can't see how a proposed 2 meter buffer would help much with the problem of dust. What about the air quality? I can surely appreciate the problem of Sherwood Auto Sales to try and keep their vehicles clean.
