9. A field visit was conducted by the MOL on June 20th 2020 to the Ontario Works office in Leamington to respond to the report of a work refusal involving a number of workers at this worksite. The reason for the refusal was related to the mail that is delivered to the site and a report that the person who delivered a piece of mail to the site the previous week had received a positive test result for COVID-19. Workers are concerned that no provisions are in place to embargo the mail and no personal protective equipment, and specifically protective gloves, are allegedly not being provided to workers who must handle incoming mail. As a result of their investigation, the MOL Inspector directed the employer to resume the stage one investigation of the refusal to attempt to resolve the worker concerns. No further action was taken by the MOL in relation to this incident as the Corporation, working with CUPE Local 543 and workers and management at the worksite were able to find a resolve to the concerns which were reported to have lead to the refusal.
In addition to the Field Visit Report on the Work refusal the MOL Inspector issued an additional report identifying they conducted an a ssessment of the Corporation’s COVID -19 policies and procedures. This documentation addressed the following subject areas: Information and Instruction to Workers; Social/Physical Distancing Measures; Cleaning and Disinfecting processes and Personal Protective Equipment. As result of this assessment, no further action was taken by the MOL as it relates to COVID-19 precautions.
