retiring from teaching. I have hosted various corporate outings at the facilities and utilized all aspects of Roseland. I am writing to you now because I know the potential of Roseland. I have a personal connection to the facility and have noticed the difference in Roseland over the last few years that extends beyond the significant financial losses. It needs to be, and can be, improved greatly --- and I have the tools and team that can help in that regard.
I would like to pursue the opportunity as outlined in my letter to the Roseland Board. I see no harm in at least exploring what possibilities exist for a working relationship. At this point, I am simply hoping for some legitimate dialogue regarding these issues. More than three years ago, (August 18, 2016 Windsor Star article by Mary Caton), reference was made to a plan to increase profitability and increase usage, but since that time the exact opposite has occurred. Furthermore, I see no evidence of a strategic blueprint or plan of any kind.
I understand that recently the Roseland Board decided that it would not offer curling to hundreds of avid curlers, despite the fact that curling is being played throughout Canada and the United States with appropriate safety measures being implemented to address the health concerns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, I learned that Little River Golf Course was shuttered for the entire golf season and did not open at all. Given that Canada has seen a golf boom this year, where golf is one of the few activities that can be done safely, is played outdoors and offers people reprieve from the challenges suffered worldwide, this decision seems completely irrational and unfathomable to me. Little River offers a tremendous opportunity for the citizens of Windsor who reside on the east side, while also providing a revenue stream for the City.
In addition, I understand that the Roseland Board has decided to provide no food and beverage offerings at Roseland this year. Again, the refusal to offer these benefits strains reason to me and is a sad loss for citizens of the City of Windsor.
I look forward to any response from the City and welcome the chance to have meaningful discussions concerning the issues facing Roseland. The citizens of Windsor deserve better. I am offering to help. I urge Council to put a plan in place that at a minimum, attempts to improve these operations. I am confident that I can bring Roseland back to the gem it has been and make it a place of which the citizens of Windsor can be proud while also returning the business operations to fiscal responsibility.
