GC 7.08 CERTIFICATES AND PAYMENTS 

  1. A certificate will be given by the Engineer once a month certifying as to the amount of work done and material furnished and of the value thereof according to the terms of the Contract.

  2. The first certificate shall be of the amount, quantity and value of the work done since the Contractor commenced the performance of this Contract, and every subsequent certificate, except the final one, shall be the amount quantity and value of the work done since the last preceding certificate was given. The Corporation will hold back 10% of the amount shown on the payment certificate in accordance with the Construction Lien Act provided always that the Contractor complies with the requirements of the Construction Lien Act.

  3. The Engineer may, by any certificate, make any correction or modification in any previous certificate which shall have been issued by him and shall have the power to withhold any certificate if the Works or any part thereof are not being carried out to his satisfaction. 

GC 7.09 EXTRA WORK 

"Extra Work" means work not provided for in the Contract as awarded but considered by the Engineer essential to the satisfactory completion of the Contract within its intended scope. 

"Additional Work" means work not provided for in the Contract and not considered by the Engineer to be essential to the satisfactory completion of the Contract within its intended scope.

  1. No work shall be regarded as extra work unless it is approved in writing by the Engineer, and with the agreed price and method of payment for it specified in the said approval, provided the said price is not otherwise determined by this contract.

  2. All notifications of claims for extra work shall be submitted to the Engineer before the extra work is started. 

GC 7.10 PAYMENT FOR EXTRA WORK 

  1. Notwithstanding anything contained in the General Conditions when it is necessary to perform work which is additional to the Tender items, unit prices to cover the cost of the work shall be negotiated whenever possible.
