Since the onset of the pandemic, the DWBIA has remained committed to supporting its membership, compiling resource materials and supplies, advocating for member safety, and preparing for reopening and the path ahead. Some of these initiatives include:

COVID-19 Resource Materials

The DWBIA has compiled a comprehensive list of business resources, tips and tools on how to navigate the pandemic, regularly and frequently posting to our social media accounts. We have also actively promoted members that were either open throughout and/or during the pandemic or active online with virtual classes, activities and more.

Lobbying & Advocacy

Throughout the pandemic, the DWBIA has lobbied federal, provincial and municipal governments and the local Health Unit for programs, services, considerations and supports for our downtown businesses. Among the considerations and suggestions were mortgage deferrals, rent clemency and subsidies, and most recently sidewalk patios, parking spots for curbside pickup, street closures etc. The DWBIA has also championed the needs of our members, with Chair Brian Yeomans sitting on the Chamber of Commerce’s Task Force Sub Committee.

New Website

On May 5, the DWBIA unveiled a brand new, fully responsive website designed to attract visitors and residents to the downtown core. The site features fresh and engaging content and is fully responsive, meaning that anyone can easily navigate it on a number of devices including desktops, tablets and mobile phones.

Boasting a clean layout, simple navigation and user-friendly functions, the new website includes information on places to dine, shop and visit, as well as information for members and investors.

Tech Talk Series

Beginning on May 19, the DWBIA began offering a series of free Tech Talk webinars to its members. The series is designed to educate members on a variety of topics and includes webinars on Social Media: Marketing Through the Pandemic & Beyond; Personal & Business Branding and Networking; Ins and Outs of Google My Business and Graphic Design 101: Create impactful visuals & elevate your businesses’ presence. The goal of the webinars is to empower our members to give their businesses the larger attention they all deserve. Members who are unable to attend the webinars are still able to access recordings of them from our website at a later date.
