Environmental Services Garbage/Recycling Collection Garbage/Recycling collection: if collection is curbside there will need to be significant discussion prior to approval. Waste cannot be placed on the roadway. For most businesses in a BIA this will not be an issue as they get garbage collection in the alley. Most recycling is collected curbside. We would need to review, on a case by case basis, alternative collection points. This would need to be a condition of the application.
Litterbins some applications for parklettes may require (or request) the relocation of litter bins. In some cases we may have to remove the litter bin all together if a location near by is not suitable.
Street Sweeping Street sweeping: it should be noted that the business will be not only responsible to maintain the perimeter free and clear of garbage, but also any garbage that may accumulate under the parklette structure. The design of the parklet would have to be such that our street sweepers could easily clean along side them. The sweepers normally have brooms that push up against the curb to dislodge any dirt (to put it in overs simplified terms).NOT OPPOSED TO THE IDEA, BUT WOULD LIKE TO REVIEW EACH LOCATION
Traffic Operations Confirm existing setbacks of 6'‐0" from driveways and alleys Maintain existing clearance in place. Closest they can build is the end of current parking stall.Transportation Planning ‐ Maintain the existing 6ft clearance on both sides of a driveway and alley
Lighting requirements? I do not see that it is the City’s responsibility to provide lighting for these applications. If the restaurant would like to add lighting for safety reasons and / or visibility, they will need to submit a lighting plan for the area they are proposing for approval along with product cut sheets. Where the proposal shows diversion of pedestrian pathways then they should be responsible to ensure trip hazards and ‘detours’ are lite properly.
