Windsor City Council Meeting (May 25, 2020) submitted by Kathleen Pistor 225 Giles Blvd W, Windsor, ON N9A 6H4

To Whom It May Concern regarding the Westgate House roof repair project:

If the submissions presented by the Heritage Committee are passed I am accepting the $30,000 in grant money and am appreciative of the assistance being offered.

My first choice was not to retain the original troughs, and I hope that repairing and retaining the original troughs works out in the long term.

I want to put new troughs with leaf filters on the back of the house. I understand the Heritage planner’s desire to maintain the visual appeal of the heritage style. I agree that maintaining the front and visible sides with the traditional trough and using the new system where it will not be seen from the street is an acceptable compromise.

I need to remove the chimney from the garage before it falls and causes damage to the clay tiles and building structure. It is leaning and the roof is also leaking around the chimney base. It is of no functional value and adds unnecessary weight to the roof of the garage. When the chimney is removed from the garage, the roof will be easier to repair and maintain, and its removal will prevent further damage (I.e. from the chimney falling or collapsing). I will get a permit if one is required.

I am looking forward to getting these repairs completed (to the roof) so I can then repair my plaster ceilings which have been damaged by water from the faulty roof.

I appreciate all the work and support given by Kristina Tang and her assistant. She is very thorough and competent. I also appreciate the support of the Heritage Committee and the City Council.

It is our collective desire to preserve the heritage of our city.

Sincerely,

Kathleen M. Pistor
