Item 8.24 Additional Information May 4, 2020 Council Meeting
Speech for Council Meeting re: Rezoning
Good Evening, my name is Donald Robb, I live at 908 Ellrose diagonal to the proposed rezoning site. I speak in opposition to the rezoning for the following reasons:
1) Through our recent news conference with CBC Windsor after the Development and Heritage Meeting in March passed the proposal, we have come to hear people suggest we are just whiners saying, "not in my back yard". This is completely false. I have talked with neighbours and we are not opposed to a new home being built on this site at 4558 Ontario within the present zoning for that property. We are opposed to a rezoning that will allow a multiplex building to be constructed.
2) There are roughly 150 properties from the VIA track north to Wyandotte, from the west side of Pillette to Francois Court, encompassing Arthur, Ontario and Ellrose.
15 % are multiplex units, mostly on Pillette and Wyandotte each with 4 to 12 units, many share parts of the building with an existing business such as a bar, law office, restaurant, computer office, tattoo parlour, and antique store. Some have parking areas which border on Arthur, and some rely totally on onstreet parking. This accounts for about 23 properties.
35% are existing older homes that have been converted into 2 or moreunit apartments, most with no existing or very limited off-street parking. This accounts for about 53 properties.
The remaining properties are a church and single-family residential homes, which account for the remaining 75 or so properties.
One of the comments made to us about the rezoning is that the city is encouraging more varied and denser neighbourhoods. I think this evaluation supports the fact that this area already has that variety and
