From: Marina Clemens, Chair of HHAC RE: Council Report: C 177/2019 Subject: Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments initiated by the City of Windsor to permit additional dwelling units within residential areas (City-wide) –
At the HHAC meeting of February 11, 2020, Greg Atkinson and George Robinson from the Planning Department provided an overview of the Draft Official Plan and Zoning Amendments for Additional Dwelling units as per Bill 108, More Homes, More Choice act of 2019 from the province. As council will remember, this item has been on HHAC’s Agenda for some time and we were pleased to have the initial Secondary Suite By Law approved in 2018. Now under Bill 108, we will see additional amendments which will as presented in the planning departments report to you for May 4, 2020, “provide an appropriate range and mix of housing types and densities to meet the projected requirements of current and future residents of the regional market area including special needs requirements”
HHAC members received this report at its February 11, 2020 meeting and looks forward to working and supporting the efforts of the Planning Department over the next few years with the hope that we will in fact see an increase in the uptake of additional secondary units both to existing homes and to new builds. We sincerely hope that council will approve this extensive and well laid out plan at your May 4th meeting.
