The roster for the month of April, 2020 shows that Irek Kusmierczyk, formerly Councillor for Ward 7 was listed as Acting Mayor.
With the election of Ward 7 Councillor Irek Kusmierczyk as a Member of Parliament to the House of Commons on October 21, 2019, and further to Mr. Kusmierczyk's letter of resignation submitted to the City Clerk on November 12, 2019 (effective date of resignation: November 7, 2019) the Ward 7 Council seat was deemed vacant as per section 258(1) (3) and section 259(1) (a) of the Municipal Act by Council on November 18, 2019.
Risk Analysis:
In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid rate at which the situation is changing, it is imperative that Council appoint a replacement on the Acting Mayor roster for the month of April, 2020.
In light of the fact that councillor Gignac, in her role of Acting Mayor for the month of March, was involved in numerous discussions/meetings during the ongoing pandemic planning while the mayor was away, it is recommended that she be re-appointed as Acting Mayor for the month of April to fill the current vacancy.
