Transit Windsor Advisory Committee

2019 Annual Report

The Transit Windsor Advisory Committee has remained involved and up-to-date with all accomplishments and successes that Transit Windsor experienced throughout 2019. The majority of the projects that were funded in Phase I of the Public Transportation Infrastructure Fund (PTIF), was successfully completed this year. Many notable projects that saw its completion include the "More Than Transit" - Transit Windsor Master Plan; the relocation of the West End Transit Terminal to Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare; and the successful referendum to make the three-year pilot Upass program permanent.

The 18-month comprehensive Service Delivery Review (SDR) was completed this fall, that lead to the development of the "More Than Transit" Master Plan. Dillon Consulting, along with Transit Windsor staff, was very busy with conducting two phases of public consultations, stakeholder meetings, pop up events, surveys, etc. The Transit Windsor Advisory Committee is among the key stakeholders, as such, they were included in the public consultation process and was kept up-to-date throughout the whole process.

In October of this year, the West End Transit Terminal originally located on College Avenue, was successfully and seamlessly relocated to Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare. This process also required the Transit Windsor Advisory Committee's involvement in the public consulation process. This new location allows for an enhanced customer service experience by providing our riders with amenities that include the use of the hospital's washroom facilities, cafeteria and snack bar and an enhanced staff experience with the newly renovated driver's room. Features of the terminal include added security, new shelters, new benches and real-time signage information on bus arrival times.

The three-year pilot UPass program between the University of Windsor and Transit Windsor ended earlier this year. Through a successful referendum, the UPass program is now permanent. Transit Windsor saw many service enhancements as a direct result of this. The Transit Windsor Advisory Committee provided support and made recommendations to include a representative from the Univeristy to sit on the committe.
