PORT HOPE'S LITERARY HERO

The Farley Mowat monument, the Boat Roofed House, is a tribute to the iconic author.

LITERATURE PORT HOPE

HONOURING FARLEY MOWAT

BOAT ROOFED HOUSE REFERENCES THE FARFARERS

One of Canada's great authors and environmentalists, Farley Mowat moved to Port Hope from Newfoundland in 1967, arriving by sailboat. His books have been published in more than 60 countries and you'll find a collection at Furby House Books where he'd come for book signings. The Farfarers is the story of seafaring people who sailed to Arctic Canada in skin-covered boats, which became their shelter during the winter before returning home across the Atlantic.
