- Community Services and Parks Standing Committee of City Council Re: report S214/2019
- Please allow me to comment on report item 8.3 with regard to the Duff-Baby Mansion at 221 Mill St. The students of General Brock Public School have been fortunate to engage in many historical studies in the Sandwich Town area, notably for our one hundredth anniversary a few years ago. The museum staff have provided many educational opportunities at the site' s interpretative centre over the years, but students have rarely had the chance to see inside the house. For this reason I support Option 1, which would allow students to experience this l 8th century treasure more fully.
- If the city were to lease the main floor of the Duff-Baby House, staff or volunteers from Les Amis Duff-Baby could interpret the history of Sandwich in the building as we teach our students local history in the junior and intermediate grades. This would enhance their experience with the curriculum by making it become more alive as well as engendering a sense of pride in being a citizen of Sandwich Town and the greater Windsor community. The history of Sandwich in Windsor is both long and significant. Please recommend that City Council approve Option 1.
- Sincerely, Anne Adamson Principal General Brock Public School
