KOREA 1950-1953
THE FIRST CANADIAN MILITARY RESPONSE TO THE OUTBREAK OF WAR IN KOREA WAS MADE BY THE ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY (RCN).
IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AFTER THE OUTBREAK OF HOSTILITIES THREE DESTROYERS SET SAIL FOR THE FAR EAST AND TOOK PART IN THE BATTLE FOR THE PUSAN BRIDGEHEAD.
THE CANADIAN DESTROYER DIVISION FAR EAST CONSISTING OF FIVE ADDITIONAL SHIPS SERVED AS PART OF THE UNITED NATIONS FLEET.
THE RCN DESTROYERS BLOCKADED THE ENEMY COAST, PREVENTED ENEMY AMPHIBIOUS LANDINGS , PROTECTED ALLIED AIRCRAFT CARRIERS FROM SUBMARINE AND AERIAL ATTACK , BOMBARDED ENEMY HELD COASTAL AREAS AND PROVIDED HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE TO CIVILIANS.
AS MEMBERS OF THE "TRAINBUSTERS CLUB" CANADIAN NAVAL GUNS PREVENTED MANY ENEMY TRAINS FROM DELIVERING THEIR CARGO.
MORE THAN 3,600 CANADIANS SERVED IN THE WATERS OFF KOREA. THE RCN SUFFERED 3 FATALITIES.
