Moved by Councillor Sleiman, seconded by Councillor Gignac, That the minutes of the New City Hall Steering Committee of its meeting held May 15, 2019 BE ADOPTED as presented. Carried.
4. Business Items
4.1 Project Update
- W. Al-Yassiri highlights the success of the recycling process of the demolition of the old city hall along with the coordination with the Planning and Building Departments.
- Councillor Francis adds congratulations to a job well done from a project management standpoint.
- Moved by Councillor Sleiman, seconded by Councillor Gignac, That the report of the Project Manager dated December 5, 2019 entitled "Demolition of Old city Hall – Project Update, December 2019" BE RECEIVED. Carried.
4.2 Financial Summary Update
- In response to a question asked by Councillor Gignac regarding the connecting canopy, W. Al-Yassiri responds the location of the District Energy lines will be impacted by the construction of the connecting canopy. He adds the District Energy lines will have to be relocated if the canopy is to be put in place as part of the civic plaza construction.
- F. Isabelle-Tunks responds there are other options to consider regarding the placement of a canopy between the 400 City Hall Square East and 350 City Hall Square West buildings which will be evaluated as part of the civic plaza design.
- Councillor Gignac states the matter relating to the canopy (at a cost of $210,000) should be considered outside of the plaza discussion. She notes the canopy is intended to protect the public from inclement weather between the two buildings.
