2018 Board Candidates

I remember as a young kid going to current CCCA member Bob Crane's gas station to look at the old cars he always had parked behind it. At age 10, I was fortunate enough to have him give me a ride in one of his V-16 Cadillacs

(which he still owns). I was hooked. I had to have my own old car and at age 15 bought my first car: a 1935 Ford. Years later, after a college education and a Master's Degree (and no desire to enter the corporate world) I decided that I wanted antique cars to be a bigger part of my life so I purchased the tools and equipment of a major restoration shop going out of business and went into business for myself. In 1981 I purchased my first Classic (which I still own today)

In 1981 I purchased my first Classic (which I still own today) and became a member of the CCCA. Today I own 18 Classics, many of them totally original. Even though I restore cars for a living my preference has always been for original cars. I believe it is important to preserve any historic time capsule and if a car is a well-preserved example it is important for it to remain that way.

example it is important for it to remain that way. My restoration shop remains extremely busy working primarily on both European and American Classics ranging from the average to one-off coachbuilt cars. I believe it is important for a shop to be able to control all phases of a restoration and consequently we do all aspects of the job in-house including sheet metal fabrication, pattern work and parts fabrication, all machining and engine rebuilding, paint and upholstery.

Restoring these great cars has allowed me to attend many CARavans, Grand Classics, Annual Meetings and the finest concours in the United States. I have also hosted the Metro Region's monthly meetings at my shop for several years as well as judging seminars. Doing this fostered my interest in service on the National Board and my time spent serving has been both productive and enjoyable. I am currently Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, Chairman of Technical Services, a member of the Classifification Committee and National Head Judge,

Committee and National Head Judge, Some of our more recent important accomplishments include expanding the list of Full Classics back to 1915. This has created a more accurate and historically correct representation of the Classic Era. We have also streamlined the Judging Form and tabulation process while maintaining our high judging standards.

Outside the car world, I have enjoyed serving in various positions of municipal government and have been Mayor of my town. My wife Susan and I have been married for 34 years and are trying to finish a long restoration of an 18th-century farm which includes a large stone house, barn and grist mill and several out buildings in western New Jersey along the Delaware River.

I have been a member of the Classic Car Club of America for over 45 years and was a founder member and Director/Editor of the Long Island Sound Region for three years. I received the Fahnestock Award for Publications from CCCA in 2000 as well as 2015, and my column "Coachwork Lines" has appeared in ThThe Classic Car magazine for 30-plus years. I am a past Vice President and Director of the Society of Automotive Historians and received their Cugnot Award in 1982.

My current Full Classics® are a 1930 Packard 733 Touring and a 1936 Packard Eight Club Sedan. I am a retired art teacher, and eight years ago became a contributing author for Hemming's Classic Car magazine where I have a quarterly column and write feature articles about coachwork and car design of the World War I to World War II era. As a producer/host of television shows for a community public television studio, my shows have an automotive theme and they have consistently won first-place awards from the Alliance for Community Media.

Community Media. I have authored a book on the village where I reside for Arcadia Publications (2010) and I am on the Board of Directors and a Trustee of several historical societies.

My vision for the future of CCCA is to generate more interest for our Club among car enthusiasts who have not had the opportunity to really appreciate a Full Classic® car. Since being elected to the board in 2015 I have been on the Publications and Classifications committees. I have done major research for cars that are being considered for Full Classics® status and authored articles for The Classic Car on those that have received approval. I gave a program on custom coachwork at the 2016 Annual Meeting in Michigan. That program was then revised and adapted by me and has been given at several joint CCCA/ Concours events to compliment the judging seminars. I have enjoyed my time participating on the National Board and believe my varied experience will continue to benefit the future of CCCA.

Cars have always played a huge part of my life. My first car was a 1968 VW dune buggy and from that point on there was no looking back. I purchased my first Full Classic®, a 1934 Packard 1104 Club Sedan, in 1981 at the age of 21 years old. Collector cars are my passion. I currently

y have 14 cars that I am proud to be a caretaker of. My collection ranges from a 1910 Model 30 Packard to a 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4. At the heart of my collection are six Full Classics®, an Auburn, a Cadillac, a Chrysler, a Duesenberg, and two Packards. When the weather is nice and I am not working, I am out driving one of them. Nothing is better than being behind the wheel of a Full Classic® on a sunny day. People are in disbelief when they are riding in a Classic, realizing how wonderful they drive and feel going down the road. I believe that driving these cars and exposing them for the great machines they are, and not just as works of art, is the key to the continued success of our Club. I would be honored to serve on the Board of the Classic Car C

I have been associated with the automobile business here in Indianapolis since I was an infant. My Grandfather started in the automobile parts business in 1913. This quickly morphed into selling cars. He was Indiana's largest Pontiac dealer in the 1930s.

As a casualty of the Depression, he and my father opened one of the earliest Buy-Here–Pay-Here used car operations in the state. My fatherbecame a Chevrolet dealer in 1972 and I followed in his footsteps as the dealer in January 1989.

Cars have not only been my business but my passion. Upon closing the Chevrolet dealership in 2008, I've been able to devote more time to the CCCA. My history involvement with the Classic Car Club of America goes back to 1974 as Director of the Indiana Region, technical chairman and treasurer. I was involved with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with their production of the Celebration of the Automobile.

I served as the first Chairman of Indiana Automotive, an organization dedicated to promote and preserve the history of Indiana automotive manufacturing and showcase its impact on the world. I also am actively involved with the restoration of the Boyle race shop in Indianapolis. I believe in driving my Classics as they were built to be driven! MaDonna and I have been on numerous CARavans as well and worked on several planning committees.

I am running for an additional term and I hope you will vote for me. The next three years are going to be critically important as the National Board focuses on improving the Club's financial sustainability without cutting valuable products and services to our members. I believe I have the business experience and the experience as a Club member to insure this focus. Prior to retirement, I was Vice President-Human Resources and part of the senior management team of Sempra Energy, a Fortune 500 company. I have

experience working in the non-profit world and am currently Board Chair of The Old Globe theatre, the sixth largest regional theater in the country and a founding and current Board member of A Step Beyond, which prepares underserved kids, from the 3rd grade through high school for college or technical schools. I have been a Director of my home Region, San Diego/Palm Springs and am also a member of the Southern California Region. I was recognized with the Cantore Family award for Regional Director Service and was presented with the Deutsch Memorial trophy for exemplary sportsmanship and helpfulness.

As Regional Vice President this past year, I have worked to enhance two-way communications with the Regional Directors in our Club by instituting an e-mail channel and reaching out to talk to Regional Directors by phone for their input and ideas. From feedback I received from members, I worked to streamline the Annual Report and the Membership Renewal processes, which have saved the Club money and at the same time improved the experience for members. I have also been the Marketing and Website Chair and worked to open a "pop-up store" for the sale of our merchandise.

Finally yet importantly, my husband Carl and I have been on 13 CARavans, where we have met and had fun with so many Club members from across the country.
