AFSA NEWS

Frank Mortl, III Earns CAE Frank Mortl III, executive vice president of the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA), has been awarded the designation of Certified Association Executive (CAE), the highest professional credential in the association industry. The CAE program is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and administered by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).

Frank Mortl, III

To earn this designation, Mortl first met the eligibility requirements by having a minimum of three years of experience in nonprofit organization management and completing 100 hours of specialized professional development. Mortl then sat for and passed the stringent CAE exam, the content of which includes questions on strategic management, governance and structure, membership development, administration, and many other essential topics. ASAE is an organization comprised of more than 21,000 members, yet only 4,000 individuals worldwide hold the CAE credential. To maintain this certification, Mortl will uphold a code of ethics and undertake ongoing professional development and activities in association and nonprofit management.

Mortl will receive his plaque and recognition at the 2015 ASAE Annual Meeting and Expo August 8-12 in Detroit. Mortl can be reached at frankm@firesprinkler.org or 214349-5965 ext. 120.

AFSA Beginning Fire Sprinkler System Planning School Expected to Sell Out AFSA has only one more Fire Sprinkler System Planning School class left in 2015, scheduled for November 2-13. It is expected to sell out soon. The System Planning School presents a comprehensive, practical approach to preparing fire sprinkler system drawings. Students receive two full weeks of instruction, 60 percent of which is study and review of NFPA 13 (2013). The other 40 percent is preparation of fire sprinkler system layout, shop drawings and hydraulic calculations. The school is designed to train a beginner to be productive immediately upon returning to work. This class is designed for those with no experience, or those who need assistance with design. The students learn by actually planning and drawing sprinkler systems while studying and applying NFPA 13 (2013 edition). If you want to train a novice designer this year you are encouraged to register them immediately. Visit firesprinkler.org schools or call 214-349-5965 ext. 132.
