ANTHROPOLOGIE TAPS THE DISABILITY COMMUNITY TO LAUNCH ITS FIRST ADAPTIVE COLLECTION
Anthropologie is the latest retailer to introduce a collection of clothing aimed at better meeting the needs of people with disabilities.
The American lifestyle and fashion retailer said it launched its first-ever adaptive collection this month in response to demand from the disability community for more inclusive offerings. The initial assortment features eight of the brand's popular pieces that have been modified to include adaptive features like magnetic snap closures, zipper openings along pant inseams and tabs and snaps for customizable length adjustments. The company indicated that all of the alterations were designed to make the clothing more comfortable, easier to wear and simpler to put on and take off.
Anthropologie worked with Lucy Jones, founder and CEO of the disability-focused fashion lifestyle brand FFORA, and a group of influencers with disabilities to craft and perfect the adaptive clothing. In addition to the modified designs, the adaptive collection highlights other pieces from the retailer that the influencers selected. "Recognizing that for many women, the simple act of getting T dressed can be a challenge, we aimed to extend the delight of our most cherished items to everyone, including those with disabilities," said Richa Srivastava, chief creative director for women's concept and design at Anthropologie. "Collaborating across teams, we poured passion into every aspect of development, humbly navigating the intricacies of adaptive design. The true reward was witnessing the enthusiasm of our fit collaborators, whose feedback affirmed the profound impact of inclusive fashion."
The adaptive line is available in stores and online and it's expected to be an ongoing offering, the company said.
