Boston's Fastest Finishers

On May 4, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu honored the fastest Bostonian finishers in a special ceremony at City Hall. Vinny Castronuovo, 23, a graduate student at Northeastern from the South End, was the fastest men's finisher in 2:25:56. Shannon Lamarre, 28, of Charlestown, is an environmental engineer and member of the Greater Boston Track Club who finished in 2:54:34. Bishop of Allston, who made history as the first non-binary finisher from Boston.

"We are thrilled to celebrate three Bostonians who exemplify the spirit of the Boston Marathon," said Mayor Michelle Wu. "Each of these athletes ran an incredible race. I'm grateful to the B.A.A for joining with the City of Boston to recognize the incredible talent right here in our neighborhoods that is part of what makes this the greatest race in the world."

Matt McDonald of the B.A.A. Racing Team set a record for fastest Boston Marathon by a Team B.A.A. runner, placing 10th in 2:10:17!

Giving Back Hits a New High

An estimated $40.3 million was raised through this year's race, bringing the cumulative total raised as part of the Boston Marathon Official Charity Program and John Hancock Non-Profit Program to more than $500 million since 1989.

Red Sox legend David Ortiz served as Grand Marshal of this year's race, riding from start to finish out front in the all-new 2023 Honda Pilot. The Baseball Hall of Famer and World Series champion also received the B.A.A.'s Patriots' Award on Saturday, April 15, for his work within the community.

This year's race was the most watched Boston Marathon on record , broadcast across ESPN, WCVB-TV, ESPN Deportes and hundreds of stations world-wide. This year's commentators included Boston champion Meb Keflezighi, Olympian Carrie Tollefson, and Paralympic medalist Amanda McGrory, as well as ESPN's John Anderson and Sage Steele.
