IEP AREA 3 : SUPPLEMENTARY AIDS AND SERVICES

This comprehensive area encompasses accommodations, modifications, consultive services and/or assistive technologies (AT) required for student access to the general education curriculum. Supplementary aids and services are designed to benefit each scholar's unique learning profile. They may include direct strategies, tools or services for the student, but also may include consultation, training and/or support for staff who work with the student. Purpose-built spaces, strategies and routines constructed with what you learn about each of your students via their IEP, will serve to support student learning through increased access and engagement. Whether providing appropriate math manipulatives, creating a classroom seating arrangement, extending time or chunking work, the IEP provides insight to drive learning benefit.

Since general education teachers are in the chief position of implementing supports within the classroom, you just might be on the look-out for some classroom-friendly ideas. Consultation and collaboration with your student's case-manager can clear things up for you. These folks have the tools to help support you and your students and can help to keep things running smoothly.

IEP AREA 4 : SERVICES

Each student's IEP details special services they will receive. Services may include academic and/or related services, such as speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work services, vision or hearing services and so on. In addition to services, the IEP lists frequency and setting in which those services will be delivered.

In order to remain compliant with federal law and support student need, it is crucial that the student receive all special education services and time allotments listed. Working in partnership with each service provider on scheduling will help to ensure a favorable design, allowing the student to get as much instructional time within your classroom as possible.
