Why SPARK is the Next Step in Autism Research

If you or someone you love has a professional diagnosis of autism and lives in the United States, you can contribute to autism research in a BIG way through SPARK. All it takes is a few mouse clicks…and a little bit of spit!

We joined SPARK to help with research. If we can help others behind us, then why not? - Jodie, SPARK parent

There are millions of people living with autism in the United States. Researchers, parents, and autistic adults are working together to learn more about it. While research has come a long way in the understanding of autism, we still have so much to learn. SPARK collects behavioral, medical, and genetic information from families and autistic adults to address the gaps in autism research and increase our understanding.

SPARK is an innovative, online autism research study. The goal

is to increase the understanding of autism across the life span. The research aims to advance the development of e昀ective treatments and therapies. This will allow for better support for all people with autism to help them achieve a better quality of life.

Participants have the ability to engage in autism research through online surveys. These surveys explore medical and behavioral topics. After completing certain eligible surveys, participants will receive individualized reports which will compare their child with others in the cohort. Families may also be invited to participate in other research studies through SPARK's Research Match program.

Over 100 genes have been linked to autism. We hope that by understanding the genetic basis for autism, we will better understand what makes individuals with autism unique and how to best support them.
