DID YOU KNOW: Only one B.A.A. running club member has ever won the Boston Marathon. This year marks the 65th anniversary since John J. Kelley ran a then-course record of 2:20:05 to win the 1957 race. Kelley finished runner-up on five other occasions (1956, 1958, 1959, 1961, and 1963).
Boston Marathon is a very famous, historic and iconic marathon. I like the course and the atmosphere. If the conditions are good I am aiming for the course record this year." – Marcel Hug, Winner of five Boston titles and a course record of 1:18:04
Spencer Strong
Spencer the golden retriever has become a fan and runner favorite in recent years. No matter the weather, Spencer has established a tradition in Ashland by holding his Boston Strong flags and supporting those bound for the finish line. Spencer has recently been battling cancer, and all of us at the B.A.A. are wishing him a speedy recovery. Stay strong, Spencer!
