OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS

April 2022

Dear Friends:

On behalf of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito and I would like to welcome you to the 126th Boston Marathon hosted by the Boston Athletic Association. For the first time in three years, the Boston Marathon is returning to its traditional Patriots’ Day date. As the oldest consecutively run marathon in the world, the important tradition of the Boston Marathon has emanated throughout our Commonwealth and beyond. This year’s race welcomes 10,000 volunteers and 30,000 athletes, of whom include the fastest professional field of runners in history, as well as charity runners anticipated to raise more than $30 million in total.

Lieutenant Governor Polito and I would like to express our appreciation to every single participant and volunteer who have worked so hard to continue this meaningful tradition. Whether running to achieve a personal best, raise funds for charity, or simply reach the finish line, we congratulate you for being a part of the Boston Marathon experience, and we wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely,

CHARLES D. BAKER

GOVERNOR

KARYN E. POLITO LIEUTENANT
