Boston Running Collaborative

In consultation with the Boston Running Collaborative Steering Committee, the B.A.A. awarded $125,000 to organizations working to increase access to running for communities of color in honor of the 125th Boston Marathon. The B.A.A. recognized each of the recipient organizations during the Opening Ceremony on Friday, October 8. Among those receiving grants were Boston Public Schools, Black Girls Run Boston, Black Men Run, PIONEERS Run Crew, TrailblazHers, Adaptive Sports New England, Boston Lions Track Club, Boston United Track Club, MetroCobras Track Club, SoleTrain: Boston Runs Together, Youth Enrichment Services, and YMCA of Greater Boston.

Developed by the B.A.A., the Boston Running Collaborative is comprised of organizations and individuals committed to building a diverse Boston running community, improving health and wellness, and expanding access to running and walking in Boston with a focus on communities of color.

The Boston Running Collaborative is led by a steering committee comprised of the B.A.A.'s Tom Grilk, Suzanne Walmsley, and leaders from Greater Boston's running and non-profit communities.

On the women's side, Patty Hung of California finished her 35th Boston in a row in 5:34:25. Patty is now just one finish shy of tying Andrea Hatch's all-time record for women's consecutive finishes at 36, established in 2013.

A statue honoring running pioneer Bobbi Gibb was unveiled in Hopkinton by the 26.2 Foundation. Gibb famously jumped from the bushes and completed the 1966 race to become the first woman to finish the Boston Marathon. The statue will permanently live near the start line on Main Street in Hopkinton.
