is being completed and will be shared on the potential model for the Windsor-Essex region. The company has factories in Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico, and California. Once the model in Windsor is established, the company will NOT establish another factory in Canada or the U.S.A. Such a facility would help to create jobs and long-lasting value in the region as Windsor transitions from Canada’s Automotive Capital to Canada’s Automobility Capital.

2. Smart City Technologies

WE EDC, through the designation as a Regional Technology Development Site (RTDS) under Ontario’s Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network (AVIN), is working on supporting the next generation of vehicles. This has included the creation of the VR CAVE to simulate test new technologies. It has also included the deployment of MioVision smart traffic equipment along Huron Church Road and eventually around the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel. A data partnerships has also been developed between the City of Windsor and Ford Mobility. These smart city technologies will help to identify traffic patterns, create efficiencies leading up to the border and around the city of Windsor. They will help to identify charging infrastructure locations based on traffic patterns where the technology exists. These actions will provide valuable data and key information with respect to the movement of all vehicles to make informed planning decisions and support economic development opportunities.

3. CUTRIC Feasibility Study

WE EDC is in discussions with the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC). CUTRIC has submitted a proposal to develop a study to help the Windsor-Essex Region better understand the business case (economic and environmental) to develop a zero-emission energy infrastructure strategy.

The study will cover:

4. Project Arrow

WE EDC is working with the Automotive Parts Manufacturers Association (APMA) on “Project Arrow”. “Project Arrow” is a pivotal competition where teams submit designs for the first electric vehicle fully made in Canada. WE EDC is providing access to Canada’s Largest Virtual reality (VR) Cave located at the Institute for Border Logistics and Security building to convert the designs of the three finalists and winner of the competition into a fully-immersive, high-fidelity environment

This emphasis on mobility data is intended to help the City of Windsor make “smart” decisions on new infrastructure and other transportation-related matters. This data strategy can be linked to
