an Advisory committee of the City Council, a venue to engage with the university and consolidate itself as an important municipal infrastructure for antiracism.

Expected Outcomes Summary (reduce to 3800 characters)

Scholarly Outcomes: 1) The workshops and conference bring together scholars across disciplines, programs and faculties and students to enhance research collaboration by developing and promoting a collaborative knowledge community through joint effort, mutual support and knowledge exchange, and 2) This knowledge mobilization will result in the publication of an edited volume, provisionally titled “Race, Racism & the University: Embodied Reflections” with contributions from participating presenters, and 3) In engaging inter-disciplinarily, we will have an enhanced theory benefit through better comprehension of the complexities of racism. The development of the manuscript into a book will further contribute to the theoretical development in race scholarship and in teachingand learning.

Training of Students/Skill Development: An undergraduate student and a Masters student are provided opportunities to professionalize by developing reports and positions papers in relation to developments in race discourse in both conventional and social media, and through attending community events, webinars and other functions. They will also be supporting the planning of the conference and related activities. A Doctoral student will be given opportunities to become more familiar with antiracism scholarship and to learn the skill of coordinating a conference. Two Doctoral students will be contributing chapters, and will be advised on this journey towards publication.

Social Benefits: 1) Enriched public discourse on race and antiracism will result from the active discussion, from the output in an open access forum, and from the exchange of information among diverse research scholars. Through dialogue, the understanding and recognition of racism facilitate a greater collective appreciation of the complexities of racism, and the necessity and development of antiracism plans and strategies. Opinion pieces, letters to the editor and articles in public spaces (ex. Windsor Star) and media postings in RAACES Instagram and Facebook and other like-minded venues, as well as a media blitz around the conference and the book collection all promote greater awareness and discussion of racism.

2) New and enhanced partnerships between the University of Windsor and Windsor’s diverse community through this programming and the Diversity Committee’s existing initiatives to promote antiracism – creating opportunities for developing future partnership projects and innovations. 3) Cultural outcomes for local communities, students, and faculty members result from the centering and acknowledgement of marginalized perspectives. Simply, the creation of a space for nurturing a collective sense of purpose develops a language and confidence to identify, describe and tackle the problem of racism – a fundamentally positive cultural outcome. Understanding the complexities of racism and validating the experiences of marginalized peoples lead to greater equity.

The connections and knowledge exchanges that have been initiated among the scholars through the proposal writing process will be enhanced and provide opportunities for younger scholars and students in the future. The work with municipal actors will also create future possibilities for collaboration and application of our research. Collectively, we develop a broader understanding of concepts, research methodologies, and interdisciplinarity while contributing to clearer definitions and conceptualization of racisms and how they can be tackled.
