November 9, 2020 City Council Meeting Item 15 Additional Information Notice of Motion
Dear Councillors:
I’m writing to ask that you do NOT support the motion put forward by the mayor today. I do this because his request is flawed. Using common sense, I am sure you can each fairly assess this situation.
First, and of most importance, this is NOT about getting a hospital or not. It will be positioned that way and the mayor will say it is the next step. This is incorrect, despite the mayor claiming citizens speak untruths. The mayor’s request is an attempt to make the proposed PLAN before the provincial government, legitimate. It is not.
There is nobody in this area that is against an investment in healthcare. For anybody to say that, they are misleading the public and skewing the truth.
Everyone in this area wants investment in our healthcare. We want an improvement that will be meaningful to the people. Nothing about this plan has been shared widely. Our population still misunderstands what this plan is about. Do you understand the proposal?
If you don’t understand the plan, please, you cannot support it. If you can’t explain it to your constituents, you can’t support it. If you can’t address the untruths in the community, you cannot support this plan. If you can’t correctly answer the people’s questions, you cannot support the current plan.
Most recently, I encountered an individual that believed Leamington hospital was to close. No, it’s open and growing and now called Erie Shores Healthcare. The Honourable Minister McNaughton happens to get his votes from the people in Leamington. Even though Windsor’s mayor met with Minister McNaughton, when push comes to shove, who will Minister McNaughton protect: ESHC in Leamington or WRH in Windsor?
While both Mayor MacDonald and Mayor Santos signed a letter of support for a new hospital, I suspect they’ll defend ESHC before they support the
