RE: Motion to reaffirm the City's commitment to the new hospital plan and building a new hospital on the recently acquired site.

Dear: Mayor Drew Dilkens and Members of City Council

On behalf of Citizens for Healthcare, we thank you for this opportunity for us to participate in the November 9, 2020 City of Windsor Council meeting and to state on the record our support for the motion as listed above.

As Citizens for Healthcare, a community based organization, campaigning as an independent and non-partisan group of concerned local citizens in support of the new Windsor-Essex Hospitals System plan we have been engaged in the hospital process since early 2016 in support of the new #WEareready hospital plan.

Our initiatives over the past 4 years are well documented including our direct involvement with the Ontario Government, the Ministries of Health and local officials involved with both the hospitals system design and the site selection and rezoning process for getting the new Hospitals System built.

Members of our organization participated in the August 13, 2018 City of Windsor Council rezoning meeting as delegates, speaking on the record in support of the rezoning and the site selection process for the approved new Windsor-Essex Acute Care Hospital site.

We have also followed and participated in the LPAT rezoning appeals process for the final resolution for the new Acute Care hospital site.

Our organization has been actively involved in this 5 stage process for getting the hospitals system built and more recently have been involved with the Ontario Government Ministry of Finance Pre-Budget Consultation planning process and in support of our presentation, we hereby submit the following submission documents of our presentations, made on January 29, 2020 and November 5, 2020.

The next major hurdle is to convince the Ontario Government and the Ministry of Health to release funding for the new hospitals system Stages 2 & 3 work immediately. This funding had been approved by the previous government on December 1, 2017.

Therefore, on the record, we are in full support of the proposed motion to send a strong message to the Ontario government, stating that all the outstanding local issues, regarding the approved Acute Care hospital site have been resolved and it is now their turn to step up to do their part to get our Hospitals system built.

Sincerely on behalf of “Citizens for Healthcare”

Karl P. Straky Sr.
