My name is Emily Ouellette and I am writing in connection with Item 15 (Notice of Motion) on the City Council Agenda for Nov 9, 2020.
I strongly oppose the construction of the new regional acute care hospital on County Road 42. This plan has been made in the interests of developers, not citizens. This location would deprive people in the core neighbourhoods of easy access to healthcare where it is needed the most. Urban sprawl development will be a disaster both economically and socially for the city.
This plan also does not meet the city's environmental sustainability targets, and has not been planned in consultation with local Indigenous populations.
I truely believe that we CAN and should wait for a properly planned hospital that considers the interests of our community and not the developers.
As a recent graduate from the Architectural program at St. Clair I've studied urban planning and the affects of urban sprawl. It is clear that this plan will not improve our city in the long run, but there is major potential.
