18. Commitments and contingencies:

Commitments

Contractual Obligations

At year end, the Commission is committed to capital projects of approximately $1,192 (2018 - $4,739). These capital projects continue the investment in the Commission’s watermain infrastructure throughout the City of Windsor. These project contracts were awarded in 2019 and will be completed during the next reporting period.

Contingencies

General

From time to time, the Commission is involved in various litigation matters arising in the ordinary course of its business. The Commission has no reason to believe that the disposition of any such current matter could reasonably be expected to have a materially adverse impact on the Commission's financial position, results of operations or its ability to carry on any of its business activities.

19. Comparative figures:

Certain reclassifications have been made to the prior year’s financial statements to enhance comparability with the current year’s financial statements. As a result, certain line items have been amended in the balance sheet, statement of income and other comprehensive income, statement of changes in equity and statement of cash flows, and the related notes to the financial statements. There was no impact on current or prior year net income. Comparative figures have been adjusted to conform to the current year’s presentation.

20. Subsequent event:

In January 2020, an outbreak of a novel coronavirus (COVID-19) surfaced in Wuhan, China and then expanded worldwide. Our proactive actions taken to contain the spread of the virus in our work places has caused some disruption to our operations and our employees. As of the date of these financial statements, it is too early to determine the impact on revenues and incremental costs but these are being actively monitored and managed. It is anticipated that revenues will be impacted although the duration and intensity of the impact of the coronavirus and resulting disruption to the Commission’s operations is uncertain.
