GENERAL STATEMENTS (MOST INCLUDED IN CAFE REQUIREMENTS) | The patio layout must accommodate wheelchairs, must not impede wheelchair access to the related building or to neighbouring buildings or businesses AND MUST COMPLY WITH THE ACCESSIBILITY FOR ONTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT. | ACCESSIBILITY REQUEST‐Be compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) |
A minimum of 2.4m (8’‐0”) on major roads and 1.8m (6'‐0”) on residential roads of unobstructed pedestrian space must be maintained between the outer extents of the patio (including but not limited to: lights, plants, tables, chairs, umbrellas, awnings, etc.) and any municipal infrastructure. (e.g. tree wells, posts, fire hydrants, parkingmeters, street lights, bicycle racks, etc).
If a detoured walkway is built through a parking lane (on a roadway) to accommodate a sidewalk patio, the detoured sidewalk must be the entire width of the parking stall and meet the minimum unobstructed 1.8m (6’‐0”)walkway clearance for pedestrians.
Nothing to be placed in the visibility triangle (which are the two points located 8m (26’‐3”) from the said corner where the curb lines meet)
Parklet lengths to be no more than 12m (39’‐4”) continuous, along any street block. | PLANNING‐Is this requirement necessary? It may be an unnecessary restriction. I would suggest that the length could be any parking stall or portion of parking stall that is directly in front of the parcel. Basically, allow to the extent that would include an extension of the side property lines.Response‐In referencing other Municipalities, this was a requirement to allow for emergency access between patios |
Retro‐reflective marking tape required at each end of the parklet and materials must minimize glare for drivers and cyclists | TRAFFIC OPERATIONS ‐ yes ACCESSIBILITY ‐High contrast reflective marking at each end of parklet |
