Courses for individuals interested in becoming a lifeguard and swimming instructor or for those interested in enhancing their water-safety knowledge and basic lifesaving first-aid skills in an aquatic environment.

Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course The Water Safety Instructor Course (WSI) is designed to provide candidates with the proper knowledge and skills to teach swimming and water safety while promoting water-safe attitudes in, on and around the water. Prerequisite: Bronze Cross and 15 year by the end of the course.


3 Thursdays and 1 weekend plus 8 hours of assisting and instructor with swim lessons


Skill evaluation, on-line course and 8 hours of volunteering must be completed before the weekend course

National Lifeguard This prestigious award develops leadership and safety supervision skills, emphasizing prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies and first aid treatment. This certification is the minimum requirement in life guarding. Prerequisite: Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid and 16 years and up

CHILD & YOUTH SPECIALTY AQUATICS

Jr. Lifeguards

This program takes components from the Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze Star and Bronze Medallion courses. Participants need to be strong competent swimmers. Drop-off and pick-up will be at the Jack Burger Sports Complex with the exception of trip day when drop-off and pick-up will be at the Town Park Recreation Centre. Level 4 swim kids required.

Waterfront Camp

A fun interactive camp to try a variety of activities as well as build on coordination and balance, teamwork, and problem solving. Participants will have the opportunity to try canoeing, paddle boarding, water sports as well as attend the Thursday trip. Please bring a lifejacket with you.
