HISTORIC PORT HOPE

3 HISTORICALLY DEFINING MOMENTS IN PORT HOPE HISTORY

WE'VE GOT A REAL SENSE OF COMMUNITY SPIRIT

1 The Great Farini Tightrope Walk William Leonard Hunt of Hope Township walked a tightrope across the Ganaraska River in 1859, his first of many public daredevil acts. He travelled the world as an acrobat.

2 The Flood of 1980 A deluge of rain on March 21 caused the Ganaraska River to rise and flood the streets in the core. The power went out, people evacuated and two Victorian buildings on Walton Street collapsed.

3 Restoration of the Waterfront Redevelopment of the shoreline includes walking trails and cleanup from industry use to revitalize the environment for public recreation.
