WE'LL PIQUE YOUR CURIOSITY

PORT HOPE HAS HISTORY TO EXPLORE AND STORIES TO TELL

The First Nations people called the community Ganaraske, located where the river meets Lake Ontario. That's how the Ganaraska River, renowned for exceptional fishing and the annual salmon migration, got its name. French fur traders came in the 1680s, but it wasn't until the late 1700s when Britain offered land grants to businessmen to form the 5th Township of Hope in 1792. And so it all began. Now our beautiful, lakeside community is a hub for tourists, nature-lovers, new businesses and people who appreciate the serene quality of life.
