- RE Lease agreement for the Duff-Baby Mansion 221 Mill Report to the S 214/2019
-
- Dear Councillors and Mayor Windsor Historic Sites Association (WHSA) is the owner of the Francois Baby House at 254 Pitt St W. Francois Baby was the younger brother of James who resided in Sandwich. The Francois Baby House located at 254 Pitt St W. is leased by a maintenance agreement to the City of Windsor for Museum and Administrative uses. The Francois Baby House dates to the War of 1812.
-
- WHSA was established in 1940 when the Hiram Walker/Windsor Museum was first created. The WHSA support the lease and use of the Duff-Baby Mansion as described in Option I of the report dealing with CQ 22-2019. WHSA feel it is very important to have public use of this historically important building. Opening up this building on a regular basis (i.e. 20 days a year+-) will permit better interpretation of the history of the building and understanding of all the important events and people that have helped create our history.
-
- WHSA gives their support to this great initiative and requests that Council approve the proposed lease of the first floor of the Duff-Baby Mansion. Further, the lease of this building together with the existing Francois Baby House, will provide a unique opportunity to showcase two homes that survived the War of 1812, that were owned by two brothers that held important places in the early history of our area.
