2. BACKGROUND:

This is for information to Council with respect to the meeting held with neighbourhood residents and Councillor Payne (see attached drawing). The meeting, held on September 13, 2012, with a group of approximately 12-15 neighbourhood residents, Councillor Payne, representatives from Parks Department, Phil Roberts from the Airport and Mario Sonego, City Engineer, was to discuss the residents' concern on what be done to control the large amount of geese moving up from the pond, fouling trails and sidewalks and eating some of the neighbours' lawns.

3.- DISCUSSION:

Generally, geese prefer large expanses of open water and also like mown grass which will both attract and make it easier to land. If there are higher grass levels, denser, more herbaceous shoreline vegetation, they will not land or nest in these areas.

The North Roseland Storm Detention Pond is necessary and is not operated to minimize the geese characteristics in that area. Certainly Windsor Airport does have concern with any large flocks of birds that nest within the area and therefore, Phil Roberts was asked to attend as YQG does their own wildlife control both at the airport and in the areas outside.
