party Swing back to the Roaring Twenties

FRIDAY: The Twenties will never die and honestly, we hope they come back around — except, you know, without the racism and gender inequality and bottoming out of the economy at the end. Funky Florida-centric Dunedin shop and hangout Roadside Attraction takes a trip back to everyone's favorite time: the Roaring Twenties — even if very, very few of us were actually alive back then. The Jazz Age will be brought to life with goodies, including drink sampling in the space's Art Deco-themed Swig Room. And while you're enjoying a taste of history, get a look into your own future with a Tarot reading by Colors of Joy's Patricia. Roadside Attraction Vintage, 728 Douglas Ave., Dunedin.  5K Run like a Sea Dog

SUNDAY: Maybe you can't run a 5K yet, but your dogs probably can! Grab a leash and let them lead you to a healthier, more agile life. Remember, fifitness goals equal being able to run fast enough to keep up with all the dogs (Oh, you haven't seen that meme yet? Just me? OK.) Anyways, the event lets you choose your dog's size category and either a 5K or a one-mile run. When you register you can choose whether you'll walk or run either distance. Celebrate the end of the race with some Sea Dog beer — because of course, and what else could you want more than a beer after working out? Sea Dog Brewing Co, 26200 U.S. Highway 19 N., Clearwater. comedy 321 in the 813

FRIDAY-SUNDAY: Improvisational comedy troupes usually depend on numerous talented cast members who can jump in and out of scenes to keep things fresh. But not this time. The 321 Improv Festival limits teams to just three, two or even one performer — without any help waiting in the wings. For instance, festival headliner T.J. Manning (pictured) performs an improvised one-man musical called LimboLand. 321 is a challenging form of improv that requires a lot of trust among the cast and a real connection with the audience. It could be magical, or it could be a train wreck. Or it could be a magical train wreck. In any case, it will be a full weekend of performances, workshops and laughter celebrating small-group improv. HCC Studio Theater, 2001 E. 14th Ave., Ybor. Aug. 17-19: 7 p.m. $20, night or $30, all. local.cltampa.com. Read our feature about the fest at cltampa.com/arts. —Michael Murillo

THURSDAY: Do you use your phone to take pictures? Uh, yeah. You do. If you have a smartphone (and seriously, my 76-year-old dad has an iPhone), odds are, you use it. Odds also are that you could use it better, because the technology is evolving faster than a Bernie Bro who realized his "Fine, then I won't vote at all" attitude may have cost us our liberty. But back to smartphone camera technology: In the immortal words of Ferris Bueller, "To keep up with it, you've gotta move pretty fast." That's where the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts comes in. They're offering a two-hour workshop on how to take fantastic photos on your smartphone — and how to edit them on your smartphone. While any smartphone user will benefifit, some of the material will apply only to iPhones. And — duh — please bring your phone. Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, 400 Ashley Dr., Cube 200, Tampa. Aug. 17: 6 p.m. $40; members, $35. 813-221-2222. local.cltampa.com. —Cathy Salustri
