BOOK

Glazer has been on a James Baldwin kick, recently finishing The Fire Next Time and currently working through Another Country, which she calls the “most visceral, powerful writing I’ve ever read,” citing the “sharp-tongued exactness with which [Baldwin] flays and slices up American culture.”

TELEVISION

While she can find reality television, in general, to be “degrading, and purposely, almost violently, demeaning to its subjects,” RuPaul’s Drag Race is a good time, Glazer assesses. “Somehow RuPaul made a reality show that’s empowering and anarchist and punk, authentically punk.”

MOVIE

The film Glazer returns to again and again? The 1993 Robin Williams classic, Mrs. Doubtfire. It “always makes me feel good,” she says. “Sally Field is amazing. She’s so vulnerable in it; it’s an inspiring performance.”

RESTAURANT

B&H Dairy—a “Polish-owned, Mexican-run, Jewish-ish food place,” as she puts it—is Glazer’s go-to spot, located in New York City’s East Village. “That is a true hole-in-the-wall. There’s no waitering, but rather they hand you something over a counter. It is a true delight, a fucking delight.”

CONCERT

Glazer says that while seeing Bob Dylan when she was a teenager was close to transcendent, as was a Lil Wayne show she experienced at South by Southwest, Lady Gaga was her ultimate concert experience. “She’s such an icon,” Glazer says. “It’s such a privilege to get the chance to be in someone’s presence, be quiet enough, and feel their humanity.”

INTERNET PASTIME

Glazer, like many of us, is on her phone all the time. “I like the BuzzFeed Tasty videos—the aerial cooking videos— that is my go-to … or looking at Rihanna’s Instagram page. That’s pretty much it. I’m also constantly texting all day usually.” She jokes, “Never be fully present: that’s my motto as an actor and as an artist.”

BEYONCÉ SONG

The two Beyoncé songs Glazer names as favorites are not the usual selections. Her standouts: the 2008 track “Sweet Dreams” (“It’s just a powerful song; it’s so alternative for her”) and 2003’s “Me, Myself and I” (“Remember that music video that’s backwards!?”).
