CULTURE SPOTLIGHT

Celebrating culture through a variety of programs, events, community engagments and collaboration with community partners

Our definition of Culture

Culture is a creative expression of who we are and who we want to be. It recognizes our values, customs and beliefs, heritage, built and natural environment, and our intellectual and social achievements. Culture is all those things that make our Municipality unique and vibrant - how people express life and live in our community.

Culture is in everything we offer from sports, aquatics, programs, art, workshops, events, public art and more.

Cultural Programs

We offer a variety of arts and culture programs throughout the year from arts, dance, music, drama and more.

Community Events

Our vibrant event calendar is brimming with a wide variety of community and municipal events. There is something for everyone during every season.

Public Art

Public art adds an enormous value to the cultural, aesthetic, and economic vitality of any community. It contributes to our identity, fosters a sense of community pride and belonging, and enhances the quality of life for residents and visitors.

Culture Days

Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture. The Municipality celebrates Culture Days annually with a variety of free programs, workshops and events.

Did you know the Municipality has a Culture Plan?

In 2012, the Municipality of Port Hope created a Cultural Plan. This dense, lengthy document was written to help build and support the facets of our community that contribute to our rich, unique local culture. The Cultural Plan contains identified needs, strategies, and goals that span 20 years - from 2012 to 2032. The plan is continually evaluated and community engagement is a key focus in keeping culture alive.
